Two months, one backpack, and a heart full of wanderlust - that's all it took for Thailand to steal a piece of my heart. As a woman solo traveller, I wasn't just looking to tick off the tourist hotspots. I was after the stories, the laughs, the typical street food, and the unexpected friendships. Thailand delivered all of this and more, and I couldn't recommend it more if you're looking to start solo travelling!
From the North to the South, the islands or the mountains, I scoured the whole country, 2 months travelling Thailand. I stayed in total exactly 51 days in Thailand, between volunteering in Koh Phangan, travelling solo and having a friend visiting for a couple of weeks...
First, when should you go to Thailand?
In general, the best moment to go to Thailand is from November to February, during dry season, BUT...
Rainy season is not at the same period everywhere - although rain don’t last all day, it is completely possible to travel during rainy season.
In Koh Samui/Koh Phangan/Koh Tao, rainy season is from October to January.
In Phuket/Krabi/Koh Phi Phi/Koh Lanta, rainy season is from June to October.
Burning in the North: From late February to mid-April (and sometimes until May), Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai/Pai face the burning season, making the air unbreathable and heavily polluted.
Is it safe?
Thailand is really safe! It's a good destination for women travelling solo, but still, follow basic rules and watch out for:
Scams: Overly friendly locals offering unsolicited help, tuk-tuk tours that take you to specific shops, and gem or tailor scams.
Theft: Watch out for scooters targeting your phone in the street. It happened to me as I was walking at night in Bangkok on New Year's Eve (I got dropped off and I had 5 minutes to walk to my hostel), a scooter driver punched me in the chest (I was on my phone at that moment). I would assume he was aiming at my phone or maybe it was to touch my chest... Luckily, it didn't get further than that and I still have my phone! In any case, though it was scary, it's the only unsafe moment I witnessed from locals.
Drugs: Cannabis is legal but vapes are not, even though a lot of people smoke them.
Before we move on to my full itinerary, I KNOW HOW HARD IT CAN BE TO PLAN A TRIP... and I don’t want that for you!
I prepared a complete guide to travel Thailand, with the best addresses, hotels, yoga studios, parties, ... as well as videos and photos to get the vibe of each place. Just for you!
It would mean a lot if you decided to support my work and it would help me create even more valuable travel content.
Now, here is my full 2 months Thailand itinerary! Hope this will inspire you...
